“Social work is not an easy occupation in which to participate, either as a service user, practitioner or service administrator. By its very nature, practitioners are likely to encounter difficult emotions, uncomfortable physical sensations, mental stresses and moral challenges. While not a panacea to combat the impact of the complex issues experienced during a social work encounter, recent research highlights the benefits of being able to self-regulate and bring the ‘whole-self’ to social work practice . Embodiment is key to this process.”

What Jo mensinga offerS (Face to face and online):

Jo is passionate about helping social workers provide services that are relationship focused and deliver outcomes, but not at the expense of their own well-being. Throughout her career, Jo has come to understand the importance of “doing my own work” so that she is less triggered and better able to respond, rather than react, to situations arising in her work. This understanding underpins her professional supervision approach. However, there are times when supervision may not be enough to uncover why we react rather than respond and why we cannot provide the best service. In these instances, she offers counseling, yoga classes and embodied practices to take a deeper look at what maybe impacting our professional and personal experience and to address these issues.

Jo also has many years experience in group work and group facilitation. She is available to consult, design and facilitate therapeutic and educational groups as well as assist organizations to run training events and develop strategic plans.
